The Man Box
By Miss Monogamish
Tonight I sat in the room with trauma,
I sat in the room with shame.
The voices of the harmed only held their space by name.
Subliminal and soft, subtle and disguised.
Societies rules on how to be a guy.
Tonight I sat in the room with violence,
I sat in the room with pain.
The stories of the hurt were hard to hear again.
Repetitive in nature, from since our time began.
Societies rules on how to be a man
Tonight I sat in the room with children,
Who grew to be their dad,
I sat in the room you see,
with those you’ll say are bad.
Dump trucks and footy, machine guns for toys .
Societies rules on how to be a boy
Tonight I sat in the room with silence,
I sat in the room with hate.
I sat in the room with these men and said
“it’s time to step up mate!”
1 woman a week, is more than we can bear.
Let’s redefine the masculine- to safe and kind and fair.
