A Roar Silenced Still Must Sound

By Rachel Lorraine

Embodiment of Fire.
Ravenous, I’ve caged you.
Watched as you paced, hurting, needing..
My lonely tiger. My magnificent beast.

Taught to fear heat, I buried you beneath resilience and the cold plastic of
being “good”.
Not realizing good girls
have
teeth.

My thighs, striped with expansion,
proof of growth too soon.
I’ve hid you.
Not knowing these tears in my skin,
are marks
of
Elevation.
Empowerment.
Woman.
Human.

I embody you now.
My growl I’ll allow
And
Expel into thunder.

You cannot starve a heart on fire.
You cannot keep running from the animal needing released.

A roar silenced

still

must

sound.
