A Lonely Summer

By Tawni Marie

flowers bloom as bees come out to squeeze sweet nectar

dry throat and relaxed muscles

my skin darkened by the bright sun

hearing passerbyʼs say things like ‘other side of the riverʼ

flowers, trees and childrenʼs laughter in the near distance

sunlight bounces off plants and buildings

creates orange skies in the evening

Is what a lonely summer brings for me

heat stricken to the point of exhaustion

I walk lonely walks in gardens of gardens

surrounded only by flowers, trees and bees

seeing the same grey dog with the same grey man

everyday they walk the same walk

on hot afternoons soaking up the moist heat

feeling that at any moment I could pass out

and not feel the lonely summers heat
